Reasonable Adjustments Digital Flag: What you need to know

The reasonable adjustments digital flag is a system to record the reasonable adjustments a person needs to access health and care services.

The reasonable adjustments digital flag is mandated through the information standard notice DAPB4019. This means health and care services must comply with the standard. The deadline for full rollout of the flag is September 2026.

What is the reasonable adjustments digital flag?

The reasonable adjustments digital flag is a system to record the reasonable adjustments a person needs to access health and care services. It holds the reasonable adjustments information in a central system called the National Care Record Service, this is on the NHS Spine. Health and care digital systems are being given the ability to access and update reasonable adjustments information.

Who is it for?

The Equality Act 2010 says, all health and care services have a duty to ensure that people with disabilities and long term conditions can access services on an equal basis to those without.

The reasonable adjustments digital flag is for all people who are entitled to reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010. This includes people with a physical disability, sensory disability, learning disability or a long term condition such as dementia, with substantial and long-term (12 months or more) adverse effect on normal day to day activity.

Why is it important to raise awareness?

Awareness of what reasonable adjustments are and the reasonable adjustments digital flag is low across communities. We want to increase awareness to ensure people with disabilities and long term conditions can access services.

By raising awareness we can empower people to ask for reasonable adjustments. Ensure information is shared via the reasonable adjustments digital flag. Enabling services to be prepared for the needs of the person.
