MECC is an approach to behaviour change that utilises the millions of day to day interactions that organisations and people have with other people to encourage changes in behaviour that have a positive effect on the health and wellbeing of individuals, communities and populations.

It is simple signposting to better health and wellbeing. Helping you to have brief conversations in order to raise awareness, motivate and signpost people to better health and wellbeing using three steps:

Ask – take notice and engage

Assist – provide motivational health information

Act – signpost to a local service

North East and North Cumbria:

Across the region there are a range of initiatives to ensure that MECC is embedded, prioritised by the integrated care system (ICS) and led by a regional multi-agency strategy group. A core element of this is a regional training programme.
