The Francis Inquiry Report: Robert Francis QC at Teesside Patient Safety Conference
Following the failings at the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust, Robert Francis QC led the inquiry which considered why serious failings in care were not identified and acted on earlier.
The report was published on 6th February 2013 and copies of the documents relating to the inquiry are available here.
Some of the key recommendations in the final report include:
- How to embed patient voice in the system
- How to engage health care staff in the leadership and management of their organisations
- The standards set for the safety and quality of care and who should have the responsibility for setting and enforcing them
- The role of Foundation Trust governors
The School of Health & Social Care at Teesside University and South Tees NHS Foundation Trust jointly hosted a Patient Safety conference on 20th March 2013. Robert Francis QC was the key note speaker giving an interesting summary of the inquiry and its findings.
