Staying alert to stop coronavirus spreading

The single most important action we can all take, in fighting coronavirus is to now stay alert, control the virus and save lives.

We can all help control the virus if we all stay alert. This means you must:

  • continue to work from home or return to your place of work if the required health and safety guidelines are in place
  • wear masks on public transport, in shops and other indoor settings (see Face coverings below for full list)
  • limit contact with other people
  • only meet in groups of up to six people indoor or outdoors, unless you meet the exemptions required
  • keep your distance if you go out (2 metres apart where possible) or 1 metre with additional protection
  • wash your hands regularly

Do not leave home if you or anyone in your household has the following symptoms:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • a loss of, or change to, your sense of smell or taste

If you have symptoms you can get a free test to check if you currently have coronavirus (see Coronavirus testing below for more information).
